Day 1 - Arrive into Bari or Brindisi.
Fly from the UK to Bari ( various airports are available depending on your preference). On arrival pick up your hire car and head out to explore. Your first stop is the port town of Bari, overlooking the Adriatic sea and home to a wonderful old town area fully of charming basilicas and local trattorias, the perfect spot for lunch.
From Bari head to your wonderful boutique hotel located in the coastal town of Polignare Al Mari famed for it’s towering limestone cliffs which plunge into the turquoise waters of the Adriatic. Spend the afternoon relaxing by then pool or head to the beach, either way ensure you’ve got an Aperol Spritz in hand whilst watching the sunset later this evening
Day 2 – Exploring Alberobello with your guide.
Head inland from the coast today to the pretty town of Alberobello, a UNESCO world heritage site and home to the iconic trullo buildings. Here you meet your guide who will walk you around the main Trulli district, learning about these odd but typical southern Italian buildings. Later continue to the spectacular town of Matera which is famed for it’s cave style dwellings, fascinating history and excellent cuisine, you have a guided tour to ensure you really get under its skin!! Return to your hotel early this evening.
Day 3 – Transfer to Ostuni
Head south today to the town of Ostuni. En route we recommend you visit the towns Martina Franco and Cisternino both offering a wonderful insight into the Baroque architecture which the region is famous for. Your hotel for the next four nights is located just outside Ostuni, which offers some of the best restaurants in Puglia as well as a bustling nightlife scene with some wonderful wine bars. You may choose to walk the cobbled streets and enjoy the panoramic views over the sea or just relax by the pool or enjoy the spa.
Day 4 – Exploring Lecce
Today you meet your guide In the old town of Lecce, once the most important town in southern Italy. Lecce is built almost entirely out of limestone and at each corner windy cobbled streets lead you to piazzas and baroque masterpieces. Your guide will explain the complex but intriguing history of how this town has been shaped under Trojan, Roman and Byzantiane rulers. You visit the bustling fish market before heading to a local house where you learn more about typical Apulian cuisine with a hands on cooking lesson. After enjoying the fruits of your labour, return to your hotel to relax.
Day 4 – Wine Tour
Venture out with an expert local guide today through the rugged rural Puglian landscape home to vineyards dating back hundreds of years. The locals are very proud of their wines and often accuse those in the north of stealing their grapes ( and limelight!!), Primitivo, Negromaro and Bombino Bianco wines are all famous produce from this region. Your day allows you to visit a number of locally owned and family run wineries where you learn more about the methods of agriculture and of course taste a selection of Puglians finest products before returning to your hotel this afternoon.
Day 5 – Return to the UK
Sadly it’s time to bid Arrivederci to Apulia, spend the morning as you please before checking out and returning to Bari or Brindisi for your flight back to the UK…
